Boating Life

Australian’s ensure they’re not sinking Down Under.

The marine industry continues to define itself as the most rapidly growing tourism sector with Queensland leading the pack.  As we thaw out from the depths of covid and step into a brighter lifestyle, Australians are warming up to a new era of leisure activities by getting out on the water. According to the Global Leisure Boat Marine Coating Market Analysis, Australia is expected to witness very lucrative growth in recreational boating, as people look for a better work life balance.

Boat registrations continue to rise, showing 2.9% increase for Queensland ownership during 2021, close to four times that of the population growth rate. The Marine Research Report supports the large numbers of southerners who made the move during the pandemic are choosing to spend more time closer to home, spending their leisure boating, in comparison to perhaps travelling overseas.

With an increase in boat ownership comes an increase in boat berths. Nationally, average marina occupancy grew from 84 to 86 per cent from 2019 to 2021, with over 57% of Australia’s marinas having lengthy waitlists, especially for marina berths longer than 24m, which has risen by an incredible 35%. Making room for the Super yachts “younger siblings” is pushing out the smaller berths. With the unique development of Shute Harbour’s Marina Resort, estimated at $350 million, proving to ensure North Queensland remains highlighted as a boat lovers paradise, Australian’s are committed to stay afloat and enjoy every minute.
